Steel Bar

Here’s a piccy of us at SVA:

A trip to Metal Supermarket in Southampton in the morning to get some steel tube, then a visit from TA member Black-Cat (Tom) in the afternoon. Huge thanks to Tom for bringing his TIG round to weld this bar in for us. He also brough his tube notcher which is an awesome bit of kit!

Tube notcher makes quick work of getting the angles and surfaces right for welding.

Tom welding the underside of the bar – not an easy place to fit in!

The resulting welds!

Bar ready for paint

And paint on the bar

  1. Hi Patrick, what spec/dimesions did you use for your steel cross tube for the seatbelts ? Regards Jeremy

      1. Hi Patrick, I can’t see if the mad about kit Car forum still exists 26/07/2026.
Trying to get carbon fibre wings for front.. the grp weigh 1.6kg, to heavy and I’ve had failure with this weight. Anywhere to source these? Can get aluminium made by batho sports, but would prefer carbon fibre. I run 17inch wheels

        1. Hi Jeremy, the people that I got these carbon wings from stopped making them a long time ago, and they won’t make more. I’ve asked because I could do with a replacement due to some small cracks from when the original steel wing stays rusted and broke. I’ve since remade the stays in stainless: https://www.msportster.co.uk/2020/05/07/new-front-wing-stays/ been fine since.

I have now an again looked for other sources of carbon wings but most are smaller for caterham / 7 style cars than run overall smaller tyre diameters. A lot don’t have accurate sizing info so its hard to know if they’ll fit. Here’s one example I had booked marked: https://www.kitcardirect.co.uk/products/caterham-carbon-rounded-front-cycle-wing-mudguards-13-pair

          Thanks, Patrick
